SPR# KCAR666TYS - PDF files created with Acrobat Distiller 6.0 can now be full text indexed.

Technote Number: 1188610

Problem:
This issue was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# KCAR666TYS and was fixed
in Notes/Domino release 6.5.5.
Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.5 MR fix list (available at
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):
Full-text indexing
SPR# KCAR666TYS - PDF files created with Acrobat Distiller 6.0 can now be full
text indexed.
In some file content variations, if you use the .pdf 1.4 format and Notes
release 6.5.4/6.0.5, the issue does not occur. This may be related to changes
in the index filter introduced by a fix for a separate issue. It was observed
that full text indexing failed in supported .pdf formats when the file settings
had certain options enabled. For details on this issue, including fix release
information, refer to Document #1089010, "Adobe .PDF files are not tull text
indexed as expected."
Workaround:
If you haven't yet upgraded, in some cases, using Notes release 6.5.4/6.0.5 to
full index the attachments may work. If this release is not available or does
not work, avoid using a version of Adobe Acrobat that uses the PDF Producer,
Acrobat Distiller 6.0 (or later).
NOTE: If the .pdf version 1.4 is used, try resaving the file in 1.3 format.
Adobe .PDF 1.4 support
It was originally documented that Notes 6 supported Adobe .pdf 1.4. However,
research by IBM Quality Engineering and Verity later found that the filter did
not work as expected for all the content variations within the file type and,
as a result, it is no longer documented as a supported file type. There may be
variations of the file type that will work as expected but this does not mean
that all variations will work. Also, the Adobe Acrobat release used to save the
1.4 .pdf file as well as the Notes release used to index the attachment can
also result in variations in behavior.
